Hit Play went West this summer to help put on the long-awaited (and pandemic-rescheduled) Fur Ball 2022- a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Silicon Valley at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco. Being the technician designer and director of the show, we oversaw all things technical, including initial concept, choosing the vendors, and managing the actual event’s technology. No animal wrangling this time, but getting to hang out with the dogs on the field was definitely a perk of this job.
It was Hit Play’s responsibility to build a suitable stage for the evening’s performer, Quixotic. Quixotic is an innovative performance art collective that fuses imagination with technology, dance, projection mapping and live music to create a fully-immersive, multi-sensory experiences.
Part of their show included an aerialist performance that called for a certain rigging requirement, which proved to be an initial challenge being that we were building a stage in an open air facility with no rigging points. We brought in a StageLine SL320 and rigged the aerialist appropriately to ensure safety for those involved. Then, the other challenge was getting a tractor trailer on the football field without ruining the NFL 49’ers natural grass. Luckily, the grass made it.
The best part of this job was getting to hang out in beautiful San Fransisco, and working with such a great team. Shoutouts are in order to Brad at East Coast Entertainment for bringing us in on the job, Jamison Valerio at Live Box Digital who was our local sound, lighting and video vendor, Local 134 for all their hard work, especially laying all the ground covering, and all the Levi’s Stadium staff for being so accommodating.
